Beef Bourguignon (which is pronounced beef boar-gin-yaan) is a signature French stew made up chunks of rich beef braised in a deeply flavored red wine based sauce, along with aromatic vegetables such as pearl onions and browned mushrooms. Often times it includes another rich meat such as pork (bacon!), and it also includes plenty of herbs for complementary fresh flavor. It is a humble, rustic style dish yet somehow at the same time if seems luxurious with such sophisticated flavor. It’s creates a main dish worthy of a holiday celebration!

Beef Bourguignon Recipe Ingredients

  • Bacon: Preferably using regular cut bacon. Reserve the drippings as they are used in the stew for browning.
  • Chuck roast: Look for a chuck roast with thin veins of fat marbled throughout. Avoid those with extra large chunks of fat as you’d just have to cut and toss this and wont have as much usable beef for the dish.
  • Salt and black pepper: I season the roast somewhat light just so the dish isn’t overly salty in the end between the salted beef, bacon, broth, and soy sauce.
  • Yellow onion and pearl onions: You can use frozen pearl onions in this dish if you can’t find fresh. Or use 2 cups yellow onion and omit the pearl onions.
  • Garlic: Preferably use fresh garlic for best flavor, rather than bottled or dry.
  • Tomato paste: This adds hints of rich tomato flavor to the dish giving it a little more depth.
  • Flour: This will help thicken the sauce to more of a gravy-like consistency. If you want a thinner stock in the stew you could reduce it to as little as 1 Tbsp.
  • Dry red wine: Wine really makes this dish. I like to use Pinot Noir or Cortes du Rhone varieties.
  • Low sodium broth: Beef broth or chicken broth can be used here just be sure it’s a low-sodium option or even salt free because as the sauce reduces as it cooks the saltiness becomes more concentrated.
  • Soy sauce: This may not be traditional to beef bourguignon but you’ll often see chefs add it to stews for more depth of flavor. It’s that little secret ingredient.
  • Fresh herbs: Fresh thymerosemarybay leaf, and parsley are used in this dish. The bay leaf can be dried.
  • Carrots: I add more carrots than may be traditional because why not up the veggies so you don’t have to make an extra side of them?
  • Mushrooms: Cremini mushrooms or button mushrooms work well here.
  • Olive oil: Butter can be used as well, olive oil just seems less heavier when paired here with the fattiness of the bacon drippings and roast fat in the stew.

Chili Ingredients:

  • Ground beef – use lean and you won’t have as much fat to contend with (though it tastes better if it’s a little fatty like 80/20). A beef chili recipe is the traditional way to make chili.
  • Beans – I use both black beans and red kidney beans from the can in my recipe (make sure you drain them!).
  • Peppers – serrano peppers and sweet peppers add complexity to the flavors without making the recipe itself complex. If you prefer a spicy chili recipe then simply add in some extra peppers.
  • Chili powder – the original must-use ingredient though you can adjust it to your level of spiciness.

ready in about 15 minutes, plus 2-3 hours chilling time

INGREDIENTS:

4 Savoiardi biscuits (sponge fingers), broken into small pieces

10ml brewed espresso coffee, cooled

400g fresh raspberries, plus extra to decorate

200g quark

2 tbsp sweetener

1 tsp vanilla extract

4 x 175g pots Mulleright vanilla yogurt

15g dark chocolate

DIRECTIONS:

Put the biscuits in a bowl and pour over the coffee. Divide half the mixture between 4 dessert glasses and top with half the raspberries.

Mix together the quark, sweetener, vanilla extract and yogurt. then divide half the mixture between the glasses. Grate the chocolate and divide half between the glasses, then layer up the remaining sponge, raspberries and yogurt mixture.

Cover and chill for 2-3 hours. Then ready to eat, sprinkle the quarter of the remaining chocolate over each dessert and chocolate with the extra raspberries.

2 syns per serving.

Syn free if using a HexB… I used an 3 syns for the caramel sauce topping. I saw someone post the recipe but I can’t find who’s recipe it was now.⁣

🍩 40g of oats (HexB) ⁣
🍩 1 egg ⁣
🍩 2 tbsp of fat free yoghurt ⁣
🍩 1tbs of sweetener⁣
🍩 1tbs of caramel fudge syrup (skinny syrups) ⁣
🍩 1/2 tbs of baking powder ⁣

I put all the ingredients into a blender until smooth. I then poured into the mini donut maker machine and let them cook for 5 mins. Once done I topped with 1tbsp of salted caramel spread from Aldi (3 syns).⁣

Those people who say “do I have to eat my heb? there’s nothing I want”. Are you ok?😱
You can have 1 x 60g wholemeal roll for HEB and turn it into a donut!! You can also skip the sugar for pure sweetener to save syns but I highly reccomend keeping the sugar for the extra syn. It’s 1000% worth it.

With a knife, make a little hole in the roll. Add 2 X teaspoons of reduced sugar jam (1 syn) spray all over in frylight (I used the coconut one). In a bowl mix 2 teaspoons of sweetener with 1 teaspoon of sugar(1 syn). Then sprinkle/roll all over. Bake in the oven at 180°c for around 8 minutes.
Best eaten hot😍🍓

Ahhh Lemon Drizzle cake – theres nothing quite like a zesty slice with a cuppa. This particular recipe is only 8 syns in total, which makes a very nice low syn drizzle cake. *UPDATE Some sweeteners now have a syn value. Please check yours and adapt syns accordingly when making this slimming world cake.

Low Syn Lemon Drizzle Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 large lemons
  • 5 eggs
  • 45g Granulated Sweetener
  • 50g Self Raising Flour

Low Syn Lemon Drizzle Cake – Method

  1. Sieve the sweetener and flour into a mixing bowl
  2. Squeeze the juice of 1 lemon into the mix
  3. Using a hand grater, zest both lemons and add the zest to the mix
  4. Separate the egg yolks from the whites. Keep the whites aside, beat the yolks and add to the mixture
  5. Whisk the egg whites until they are fluffy and form soft peaks. Fold into the mixture
  6. Add to the cake tray
  7. Bake for 20-30 minutes on 180C until golden brown, allow to cool a little
  8. Mix the juice of the second lemon and 15g sweetener, pour over the top of the cake and bake for another 10 mins until the top of the cake is beautifully glazed

1/2 250G TUB QUARK

4 TABLESPOONS OF GRANULATED SWEETENER (2 SYNS)
1 SMALL TUB TOTAL 0% FAT FREE YOGHURT
1 SACHET OPTIONS WHITE HOT CHOCOLATE POWDER (2 SYNS)

FRESH STRAWBERRIES
PREHEAT OVEN TO 190o
SEPARATE THE EGGS. WHISK EGG WHITES TILL THEY FORM
PEAKS, SET ASIDE. MIX EGG YOLKS , SWEETENER, WITH ½ A 250G TUB OF QUARK,
BAKING POWDER & COCOA POWDER, FOLD THIS
MIXTURE INTO THE EGG WHITES. POUR INTO A LINED
AND SPRAYED WITH FRYLIGHT SWISS ROLL TIN AND
COOK FOR APPROX. 10 MINS TILL FIRM TO TOUCH.
TURN OUT AND REMOVE PAPER WHILST STILL HOT.
WHEN COLD, MIX THE OPTIONS INTO THE TOTAL 0% AND SPREAD ON THE ‘SPONGE’ ALONG WITH SOME STRAWBERRIES. ROLL UP & DECORATE

This one is decorated with 12g (3.5 syns) of melted white chocolate the whole roulade works our at 13 syns. (2 syns a slice)

25g choc chips (6)

DIRECTIONS:
▪Mix flour, baking powder, sweetener, 2 eggs, and bananas.
▪Separate 2 eggs, mix the yolk into the mixture and whip the egg white till stiff.
▪fold the egg white into the mixture then pour into the loaf tin. Add your chips and cook on 180 for 40 mins 👌🏻

INGREDIENTS:

37g coconut flour,

5 eggs separated,

1 tsp coconut essence,

1 tsp baking powder,

3 tbsp sweetener,

2 tbsp cold water.

DIRECTIONS:

Whisk egg whites till stiff, in a separate bowl mix the yolks, essence, water, and sweetener together than working quickly mix in the flour then fold in the egg whites (you need to work quickly as the flour is very absorbent ). Spoon into a silicone baking mould sprayed with frylight and bake for approximately 30 mins on 180 degrees. Once cold spread with 2 tablespoons of reduced sugar raspberry jam and sprinkle with 10g of desiccated coconut.

13 syns the whole cake.
Coconut flour is a great source of fibre so very filling
